Photo shows RMT-92675 NJ TRANSIT/NJT A-A Set.
RMT-92675 is an A-A set with NJT #423 powered and a NJT #424 non-powered unit. Painted in the NJT silver mist and black paint scheme with the orange-blue-magenta logo and black lettering, the RMT-10-6675 NJT A-A Set diesels are a fitting tribute to the 'covered wagon' era on NJ TRANSIT.
New Jersey Transit Rail Operations is the rail division of NJ TRANSIT that provides regional rail service primarily in northern New Jersey, along with one line in southern New Jersey (to Atlantic City), with most passenger service centered around transportation to/from New York City, Hoboken, and Newark on the trackage formerly owned/operated by the Jersey Central/CNJ, Erie Lackawanna/EL, Penn Central (ex-Pennsylvania RR) and Lehigh Valley/LV railroads.
During the mid 1980's, NJ TRANSIT was looking for additional motive power as passenger demand increased and new/rebuilt locomotives had not yet arrived. After the CHICAGO & NORTHWESTERN RR was merged into the UNION PACIFIC, the CNW's executive F unit diesels were put up for sale and 6 of these F-7A diesels (417-418-420-423-424-425) were subsequently purchased by NJ TRANSIT. After repainting into the NJT colors, these diesels were operated in push-pull passenger service throughout the NJT system but concentrating mainly on the former EL and CNJ lines. All these F type locomotives were retired from service by NJT in 2007.
A-A units are sold only as a set. There is no matching NJT B-unit as NJT did not roster any passenger locomotive B-units.
